Women In Trucking

Trucking has long been considered a male-dominated industry, requiring long hours, lots of travel, and the unknown while out on the road. It’s an interesting job that will take you to incredible places – and pays well, too – but historically it’s been a place for men. Chief Carriers is actively working towards appealing to the female demographic.

According to the Women in Trucking Association, women make up approximately 10% of all truck drivers in the United States. This is a nearly 2% increase since 2019. Although the number of men in this profession outweighs the number of women, that doesn’t mean truck driving is a man’s job. It might surprise readers to learn that female truck drivers date back to 1929 when America’s first female trucker, Lillie MeGee Drennan, took the wheel!

Andrew Winkler, General Manager of Chief Carriers, discusses the improvements in technology.
