Chief Carriers Named Best Fleet to Drive For in 2021

Twenty fleets have been recognized by The Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) in the 2021 Best Fleets to Drive For program. This program identifies trends, shares best practices, and publicly recognizes the for-hire carriers providing the best workplaces for their drivers. To be considered for the Best Fleets program, companies are required to receive a nomination from at least one of its company drivers or owner-operators. The company is then evaluated against a scoring matrix covering a range of categories including:

  1. Driver compensation
  2. Benefits/Non-Financial Compensation
  3. Effectiveness of Measuring, Recognizing, and Managing Individual Performance
  4. Building, Maintaining, and Onboarding New Drivers Into the Culture
  5. Continuous Improvements and Efficiency of Day-to-Day Operations
  6. Improving Driver Skills and Providing Opportunities for Growth
  7. Supporting Drivers Work/Life Balance

2020 was a year like no other for the trucking industry. In the midst of a pandemic, fleets had to step up and focus on deliveries while creating a workplace that honed in on culture and driver satisfaction. Building the driver culture has been a result of calculated programs and incentives including a move to paperless onboarding for drivers, more focus on quality home time, weekly business video updates to drivers, additional safety and training programs, monthly roundtable lunches with drivers/staff, Chief Carriers’ Driver App for real-time communication, and a robust mentor program.

“Chief is consistently focused on driver culture and satisfaction. We understand that our success is due to our people, past and present, and the commitment to our vision drives our growth into the future,” said Andrew Winkler, Chief Carrier’s general manager. “Out of an estimated 30,000 trucking companies eligible to participate in the Best Fleets program, we are elated to be recognized for providing a leading workplace in the trucking industry.”
